| Post subject: | Carburetor leaking fuel. |
SO my carburetor started leaking fuel at the base where it mounts to the intake manifold in large quantities.. Is this because of the floats? I am thinking I need to rebuild it. Or if anyone has information on someone around the Tacoma WA area that is good at rebuilding carburetors i would appreciate the information. |

Hi!, My 74 went through that phase. I ended up getting a good rebuild kit and ordered a new set of floats. After rebuilding and adjusting and re-jetting it ran ok for a few years then SL6 Dan and Doc recommended a 1920 Holley EconoMaster. I made the switch and have never regretted it..... Your problem is most likely either the needle & seat inlet valve or the float. The top of the carburetor has to be removed to replace either one. If your carburetor were spotless inside it might be worth replacing only what it needs but odds are it isn’t and needs completely disassembled and cleaned. If that’s more than you want to tackle, some have been sending them to buzzardcarburetors.com and having good results. If you want a new carburetor you could try sending SlantSixDan a message HERE and see if he has any left. Danny |

See the hard to start post for some more ideas and contact for parts. SL6 Dan may have a good one. Send him a PM if you want a new carb. |

I picked up a kit today. The float is a plastic one that looks like it is in ok condition |

That is the one I am using also, made from a brown plastic foam. |

You can't judge the condition of the nitrophyll (plastic foam) floats by looking at them. You have to weigh them. If it's over the specified weight, it needs replaced. Walker #100-13 for another nitrophyll float, or #100-48 for a brass float, for the Holley 1945 carbs. |

well I just pulled the carb apart. I seem to be missing pump disc piston that goes over the ball. I opened the carb kit to see if it had one all it has is the ball. I took the throttle body ass off to clean it and one of the threads is striped. So I think I need to start trying to find a new carb to replace this one at this point. So if anyone knows were to pick up a one barrel carb that will bolt on I would appreciate the info Started to do a really good inspection and found that the needle and seat assembly is stripped beyond repair plus lots of missing pieces. cap for the vent valve is gone so it looks like I am going to have to pick up a new carb anyway |
