I think he's nuts saying dont do anything to the intake ports...

Im doing my first head right now and my only advice is to take your time.
Blending the bowl area will really make the difference as well.

I heard it works great just to port the top and side part of the port and leave the bottom section untouched. This is the route Im going.

Add larger valves with a good 3 angle valve job to get the most out of
your port work.

Have fun

I believe Doc has a head porting article on the front page of this site?

Definitely smooth more out down by the guides and bowls. You can take more off. It looks like you've barely touched them. You do not need to take off material in the middle of the port (halfway between intake flange and valve seat), but more smoothing in the bowls will really help.

I heard you cant really mess these slant heads up to much, unless you go to extreme and get into the water jackets.

Im gonna port mine, and if it does not do as good as I think it should -Im not out a thing but some time. It will be a learning experience for sure.

Advise just smoothing the floor of the runners and not taking much off...believe me.

While the exhaust ports should be polished the consensus is to leave the intakes a little on the rough side.

I got some pointers from Doc- run your fingers along the length of the runners feeling for bumps and imperfections & take those down.

Also, as I understand it there are stages of porting- 1, 2, 3

1- Mild polishing/smoothing/gasket matching manifolds.
2- More material off cross sections, bowls & manifolds.
3- Major material removal<< careful here.
