Ok, I know it's not a slant six but I'm working with what Iv'e got here, besides being my first project car "and free at that" the car has a "refurbished, not original" flathead 230 inline six under the hood. This particular engine is a refurbished unit from Canada from when the original engines failed. What I want to do with it is put a 225 OHV cyl. head on top and get the machining done. I don't want to go full drag but I don't want to be sheepish with all these young dumb "I just got back from Iraq and I bought a bad ___ ford" freaks running around out here in the desert. For now the body work can wait and I want to concentrate on the engine, and performance. I know that since the engine is already stroked my chances of getting anywhere near 6K RPM is dull or none, so Iwas thinking full N/A build with crank, cam, head, TPI, and possibly in the future, a cent. supercharger with meth injection. I have the stock three-on-the-tree tranny but want to look into getting a OD drop gear for long hauls and family trips. This is a resto mod car I plan to keep the stock head "incase I ever want to switch back to carb, don't forsee it though" and I had the gen rebuilt for 12 v and am in the process of switching the system of switching the elec. sys. to 12v as well and revamping the wiring harness "rats ate the other one" High compression is my goal but not so high that I exceed the pump limitations "I live in SOCAL so the gas is crappy, nothing above 91" the reason I have chosen this site is it was suggested to me by an "old timer" that is already passed on, he was never a member, but he gave me this car under the promise that I'd fix her up, and I really don't want to let him down, and he said one of his pals may be on here. I am originally from Franklin Co. VA "moonshine capital of the world" and love MOPAR, in fact, it will be carved on my gravestone. any help on this would be greatly appreciated. It sounds like you have a good plan. I know there are a lot of people on here that will steer you in the propper direction. I am kinda new to slants and Mopar overall myself. I got my first last year, and it is as old as I am . Semper Fi, Mike (retired Marine SSgt, 1986-2006, MOS-6337) |

Am I reading this correctly? You want to put a cylinder head from a OHV 225 slant six engine on to a 230 flathead engine block? That will not work, for many reasons.

I have to Ditto Charrlie on this one. However all is not lost on hopping-up your old flat head. The same methods we use to bump up the power on a slant six will work on your 230. Bigger valves, higher compression, better breathing, more carburetor. Look around on the net for performance inline engines. Every once and a while I see an old flat head with two carburetors, headers, and a hotter cam come rolling into a show. It can be done, but will require a bit of research, and fabrication of parts. |

Kevin Thanks for serving! And welcome home! Now on to the build. The inline flat head six is very different from the slant six. The basics will be the same but not the exact builds you see on here. The are some inliner groups and even flat head groups around. I would think that those would be a good source for parts and ideas. Welcome to the forum, Frank |
