I parted out a 1971 Satellite Custom awhile back and took the front and rear seats out as they had the most unusual pattern on them that I had ever seen on a b-body (for factory seats). Now they are starting to get in the way around the garage and was wondering can I remove the covers from the seat frames and just keep the covers? Will an upholsterer ever be able to get these seat covers back onto a different (but identical) seat frame a year or two down the road? Has anyone ever done this before ? Should I clean them down now? Thanks - Dave

I would think depending on condition of material that a good upholster that's car smart should be able to reinstall at a later date. If there is any vinyl as part of covers try not to fold them when you store em as the "plastic" will crease and may or may not "relax" again. A good shop will use steam if needed to "relax" and stretch the covers. Cloth material could be weak and split usually along seams where stitched.I would also try to keep the matching padding just for added insurance as these things get a set to them.

Thanks for the advice here. I'm gonna pop those Hog rings and save the covers and get rid of the seat frames.
