There is a schematic for the MSD-6 on line some where. I found it when I was working on an old MSD box. If you really want capacitive discharge I'd search Craigslist. Building a CD box would be a lot of work. |

Long ago I saw schematics in an RCA handbook on thyristors and SRCs for CDI systems, as well as an good discussion on ignition systems in general. I couldn't put my hands on it when I looked for it, but I may have it somewhere still. I doubt you could save much money building it yourself over buying an MSD6 unless you've lots of parts laying around already. |

In general, ready made mass produced parts are going to be cheaper or at least close to the cost of anything you can build yourself. That's pretty much true of anything electronic. The only real justification to do it yourself is for the satisfaction of doing it or to build in features that can't be found on the off-the-shelf boxes. |
