In other posts, there is mention of grinding done on the frame (or the torsion bar adjustment flag) when swapping in later LCAs into a early model (60-61) valiant. I swapped the entire front suspension (kmem, LCAs, steering links, etc) from a 65 into my 61. I did not do any grinding, am I going to have clearance issues between the frame and t bar adjusters ? Is a 63-66 abody frame a different shape above the LCAs than the 60-61 valiant? Does a 63-66 have a detent or an angle to the frame box above the LCAs?

I think you are in the expert on this, this swap has been talked about -- you have done it.
As far as grinding--- you swapped a complete k- member-- this changed all your front end components-- I would think the grinding issue resolved itself. (you now have a 62-66 k-frame in your 60-61 toad)

did you have any problems? Did the k member slide right into place? did the car align--

I'm just curious to any problems you had with the swap ,Lawrence

The kmem just bolts up, but other things must change also, starting with the steering box and engine mounts, leads to new idler/pitman arms, etc. I started the swap years back, but never finished it. The last couple items are to be sure the LCA bumpers do not bottom out early and to get the sway bar links attached. The car has not been driven or aligned since the swap. I did the toe adjustment with a measuring tape with no problem, but have no tools to measure camber or caster. To answer my original question, I just got a better look under a 63 dart and took the old 61 LCAs out of the shed. The frames of the 61 and the 63 are indeed different above the LCAs. The 61 is just a plain box, while the 63 has a detent on the inside (engine side) of both frame rails above the LCA. The torsion bar adjuster on the 61 LCA is flush with the top of the LCA while the later LCA has a "flag" that rises above the LCA as it is adjusted. The detent in the frame provides clearance for this "flag". Another difference in the 61 and 63 frame that may cause the LCA to bottom out early is the 61 frame has a tab to stop the LCA on extreme suspension travel. The tab looks like it will need to be reduced somewhat to work with the later LCAs.

i'm suprised you didn't make the 60-61 mounts work. they look close with an oval mounting hole --i thought they might work,L

The right side may have been close - But the geometry of the kmem are different where the engine mount hits on the left one. The 61 kmem the mount spot is flat (parallel with the ground) while the 65 kmem the mount spot tilts toward the motor maybe 30 degrees or so. I took the easy way out and got a set of mounts to match the 65 kmem.
