Does anyone know what the small bumps are on the underside of an intake manifold for a 225 slant six?

I'm guessing that you're referring to the bumps that are where the intake and exhaust manifold bolt together. I would guess that these are supposed to help with heat transfer, but I'm not sure.

Those would be the ones I'm referring to. Hmmm... that makes sense...

They also make a great meat tenderizer or nutcracker, especially if the manifold is one of the cast iron ones.

AloomiNeeums don't have those things. They don't need them. They warm up quicker.

Wellllll, I just looked an AL one barrel intake I have and it does have lines on the bottom. Not the bumps, but definite raised lines.

The one aluminum 2bbl I have has a raised area for the EGR passage, then has raised crosshatching on it. There is another aluminum 2bbl out there. It is owned by a friend. Never looked at it.

They increase the surface area for greater heat flow.

Well, looked at my friend's 76 or 78 aluminum intake. It does have the nubs!
