This seems like the beginning of a bad joke. I need to change the light bulb in my radio and need some advice. I have a 69 valiant and it's not clear how to get the radio bezel off. With my hands buried up behind the dash it seems like there are some fasteners back there. Any idea how many? Is it crazy to try and get this off with the dash mostly intact? I've also got an ac unit to work around. Thanks, Travis |

have you taken off the nuts behind the radio knobs? when those are off there should be one bracket in the back holding the radio along with the speaker wires and radio power and light wire IMO it is almost easier if you pull the instrument cluster to do the radio and then while that's out you change the bulbs that have went out on that to, but that's just me |

I think this 69 has the stylish thumb roller type of controls, not a knob therefore no nuts fastening radio to front of dash. |

Correct it has the thumb rollers. I'm afraid it might be easier to pull the cluster but I'm a little daunted by that task. |

As suspected. Unfortunately I have not had one of these radios out of the dash, and can't be of much help to you on this one. Pulling the gauge cluster won't help. However, that face plate is held on by one of several methods: double stick tape; bolts fastened from behind the dash, or some kind of trim clip. You will have to look behind the dash to see if there is any of these items sticking through adjacent to the radio's chassis. Do you have a copy of the "Factory Service Manual" for this car? That publication would have instructions for this project, and all the future projects that you are going to do. Getting a FSM is money well spent, and highly recommended. Perhaps someone that has pulled this stile radio could toss out a little tip. |

Actually the FSM doesn't go into detail about removing the radio. There in lies the problem. |

You need to get the face plate off--- then you should see 2 screws on either side to remove the radio. If it has never been removed-- there most likely will be a mount/strap on the back to hold it securely to the dash frame. Lawrence |
