Post subject:  new carb but found another problem...oil possibly

well after a month of waiting i finally got my replacement 1920 and put her on in less than 5 minutes after it was dropped off
fired right up
but now that my timing and fuel issues are gone im afraid my oil pump has gone out
it sounds rough like theres no oil and theres smoke coming out of the valve covers...but not real fast i might add
since my dipstick is cut i cdont know how much oil is even in the engine but ill change it soon to find out

besides my dummy light where on the engine can i put a pressure gauge to see what my oil psi is?
and where exactly is the oil pump..ive heard its a pain to get to but i cant find any manuals or anything locally that help me out

behind the distributor. There is a sending unit there with 1 wire coming out!

Look under the oil filter from under the car. You will see that one wire clipped to an electrode facing in the direction of the fire wall Rug_Trucker was talking about. That is the oil pressure sending unit, and that wire goes to the low oil pressure light on the dash. All that rigging is connected to the oil pump.

Where the pressure sending unit is screwed in you can put in a T-fitting which gives you a place to adapt a mech pressure guage and still have a place for the idiot lite. Some leave the guage under the hood to watch while tweaking an tuning or plumb it inside the cab to keep an eye on it while driving. If you need to mess with the oil pump use the search function for info on servicing the pressure relief valve and tips on removing the pump. You'll be wanting to adjust the valves anyway so as the valve cover will be off watch for oiling at the rocker arm,if it's oiling you're probably ok on pressure.Good luck

still sounds like crap and theres black crap coming out of the tailpipes
the new carb needs some serious tweaking for sure

You need to adjust your valves FIRST get it warmed up and purchase a valve cover gasket. Do the valve adjustment procedure as found on this site(do a search). THEN adjust your carb.
