so i have no choice but to keep my 8 1/4 rear end for now so i found a sure grip to run but im no sure on the gears and the engines like built for major "streetable power". i want 3.91 gears or 3.55. what bould be best for the street for hard accceloration

What tranny are you running? What tire size do you have?
How much mileage are you willing to lose?

If You had an A-833OD and a heavy car I'd be thinking in the 4.11/3.91 range... if you had an automatic and large tires then 3.55's might be a fair compromise.

Probably 3.55's ,if you wanna drive the car quite a bit. You might could get away with 3.91's if the tire is tall enough.

By the way- an 8.25 sure grip will be more than enough to handle a hot
slant six. Why bother with an expensive 8.75 rear that you dont need?
The sure grips are big $$$ for 8.75's as well. I'd only go to 8.75 if you
were going nitrous, turbo or supercharger. The advantage that the
8.75 does have is the ease of gear swaps which is very nice. If you dont like your gears, swap the chunk.
