Post subject:  Violent Pulling to Left On hard Stops

Well This is happening on My 77 Ramcharger it pulls to the left. Very violent on hard stops.

I have done New calipers on both sides New Hoses on the Front axle - All 3 as it's a 4wd and This had a new brake booster and Master Cyl.

The only other thing I can think of is a pinched RF hard Line - I just thought of that now So I will check it out.

The truck goes down the road straight when There are no brakes on.

Thanks for your insight.

I'm not familiar with the suspension layout on Ramchargers, but how are the bushings? Is there a strut rod?
Under braking, control arms can change position and cause all sorts of problems, if bushings or loose components allow a shift.

Another posibility is contaminated brake shoes.

Check the lines going to the right side for obstructions, crimps, and hung up, binding or stuck calipers . This is acting as if not enough pressure is being applied to the right side.

Thnaks,

All the suspension parts are in good order as this is a 4WD model, there are no contol arms or strut rods etc. Just a front axle with and off center punkin. Tie rods etc. are new and in good order.

Yes I crawled under and the Hoses are new ( june 09 ) and free of crinps etc as is the hartd line. The caliper is not binding or stuck as it's new and I have verifed operation.. I will scheck for contiminated linings but those should be good ( new pads less than 2000 miles ago.

Thanks, Greg

Greg,
I know that this is a long shot but could you have a problem with a leaf spring or shackle causing this problem, somthing that only happens with the forward transfer of weight?

That's what I'm thinking also. If you haven't already, I'd I would check all the spring and axle mounting points and the kingpins.

Greg....are your calipers new or rebuilt??? I have seen both bad....even new to you parts...It seems to me that or rubber line pinched...or dirt in cal bore binding up....IMO

If you can find a spot to do so safely, try locking the brakes up on dirt and make sure that all 4 wheels are locking evenly. pullling to the left indicates RF brakes aren't working, or LF is working too well.
A lot of the good ideas have already been mentioned, but add to the list a faulty caliper or internal blockage of the brake lines. Check the pads and rotors to make sure that there is no contamination or other problems there. Bleed the front brakes paying attention to the flow of fluid from both sides, once the air is out the flow should be similar, if it's not that indicates line blockage. I have had new rubber hoses that had problems. Also if you have a trailer brake controler that uses a line from the master cylinder, make certain it's bled, my Trailduster had one on it when I got it, and I fought screwy brake problems for a couple years until I decided to bleed it.

Dodge truck calipers had a bad habit for "sticking". They are sliding type calipers. Try removing both calipers and, with a file, cleaning up the part that the caliper rides on. Put moly grease lightly in the area that ti slides. I have even used a 4 1/2'" grinder to genly clean up the brackets. Make sure that everything is not binding.
Also, the rubber brake lines had a tendency to shrink and constrict the line, preventing the free flow of brake fluid. This might be a problem but usually not but might be good to check anyway.
