Post subject:  Holley 1920 Leaking Fuel bowl
I noticed fuel on the intake manifold, so I bought a rebuild kit and went over the carb. The new fuel bowl gasket looks like cardboard and isn't very thick, so it leaked when I put it back on... looks like some meathead overtightened the fuel bowl and warped it. Other than that, it runs beautifully now.

Can I get a sheet of thicker gasket material and cut out a new fuel bowl gasket?

Also, the float looked ridiculously brittle and needs to be replaced. I tried Napa and Lordco, but they won't even order one in.

Any ideas?

Got my supersix setup sitting here, but it needs to be cleaned up, rebuilt carb etc... I'm just hesitant to replace a perfectly running 1bbl ;)

You must have a bad NAPA. No problem out here in the Puget Sound.

Sure, look under Slant Six providers on this forum, there is a phone book listing if you will of all the business.

Look for Joe's Carb's Lynnwood, WA.

He has the good float bowl gaskets....I bought (6) but ounce he showed me how to install one, I have kept using the same one. It has been off and on over 50 times, and doesn't leak. Mine stuck to the bowl side which is what you want. Use some 30 weight on the bead on the carb side before you put it on. Just run a small bead in the gasket groove with a needle oiler.

Joe's carries good floats, accelerator pumps, etc......all the parts.

You can file the ears flat on the carb side of the bowl where it was over tightened so there will be enough room/gap to tighten it back up. Snug is all you need.

I ended up cutting my own float bowl gasket out of 1/16" cork sheet material from Lordco. The discontinued float is on order from my local Napa (they're ordering it on monday) and should be here in a week or two. For now I'm using the crappy old float... But no leaks so far! :D

Good luck on the float from napa , I tried ordering it twice for my 1920 , and both times was a different float.

Yeah, I'm not expecting them to come through. The first one I ordered looked like it belonged in a Carter BBD. It was brass.

The girl at the counter was helpful, but she and the manager kept telling me the carb # I gave them was just a casting number and all Holley's say "LIST: " before the carb number. The carb # on a 1920 is right above the float bowl. 8 Numbers, correct?

The numbers should be 4 digits on the front face above the bowl. It doesn't say list like on the four barrels or "R". Take the numbers off the top row and a "R" to the front of them. Mine is R7585.

To see a picture of the carb number click on the red link below my name. Once the picture comes up double click to go into full screen show mode. Scroll through to the carb shots to picture 24 is a good close up of the number.

Joe's Carb shop showed me some nice floats and may get them quicker to you than NAPA. He also has quite a stash of carb bowl gaskets...
