I have a "unique" hum coming from my motor as of this afternoon. Seems to be coming from the frontish portion, under the valve cover (Imagine that!) Does not seem to effect performance, meaning the truck felt the same on the ride home, but loud none the less. The truck is an '86 with a non feedback single, and a hydraulic lifter is/does occasionally stick.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would pop the valve cover off for a look see. It may be a lifter or push rod. Or it may be gum and gunk building up. Better now than gauling a lifter bore or worse.

I think I had that noise.........

I thought it was an alternator bearing, but disconnecting the belt didn't make it go away until..........

It went away when changing from dyno to 10w-30 synthetic oil........
