Post subject:  Ballencer Timming Marks

HI ALL, SORT OF NEW TO THE LEANING TOWER OF POWER BUT VERY EXCITED TO ALL THE NEW POSSIBLILTIES. HERE IS MY PROBLEM

replaced my h-ballancer on my 67 dart(original engine)with one I got from a local yard. it slid righ on no issues. I am tring to time the engine but it looks like the timming mark comes up on the left side of the motor.. I mean when the light flashes i can see the mark in the appx correct place if the timming tab was on the left side of the motor. did chrysler ever move the timming marks or the timming cover tab on different years??
if so any ideas how i can get this timed w/out pulling the car or engine appart?
can i measure so many inches left or right of the woodfuff key or the current timming mark so i can the mark the ballance where it should be for 1967 ?
how do i know if i am at tdc to possible mark the pully?
thanks for the in put

They moved the timing mark and tab on the later Slants. You have a damper for the wrong generation engine.

To find TDC you need a positive piston stop which you can make from an old spark plug. I'm pretty sure it's been discussed before so do a search for "piston stop." With the piston stop in the #1 spark plug hole, all the spark plugs removed and the battery disconnected, turn the engine clockwise until it contacts the piston stop. Do not force it, the stop goes in at a sharp angle and would be easy to bend or break. Make a temporary mark on your balancer. Then rotate the engine counter-clockwise until the piston contacts the piston stop. Mark your balancer at that point, TDC will be exactly halfway between your two marks. Be sure that you are on the compression stroke (both valves closed) when you do this or you'll be 180* out.
