I've seen 198 rods mentioned in rebuilds and wonder what's the catch? I know that the 198 rods are the longest meaning it will set the piston closer to the block deck. Can the 198 rods be put in the 225 to bump compression with no other modifications? Does the reciprocating assembly need to be re-balanced? Does using the 198 rods change the amount of milling that can be done to the head surface?

If all /6 pistons are 3.4 bore, are there any differences in the wrist pin height? I'm considering a mild street build so any other suggestions, experience, and tips will be appreciated.

Read this article and then ask additional questions.

The "long rod" 225 is a "well known" SL6 engine combination that works well on the street IF you build it with the proper compression ratio. (9 to 1 max for pump gas)

Dang Doc, I was hoping to buy the k1 rods and shoot for something from 9.5 to 9.8 to 1 for a streetable weekend warrior. Am I out to lunch? No comments from you Zilla! :D

I ran mine on the street for a long time with 10.5-1 on 91 pump gas. :D

I have heard something I find even more annoying than Rush. They have been playing the crap out of a song called "Know your Enemy" or something of that ilk. Geddy could learn something about repetitive lyrics from this wad of crap.

"9 to 1" is a "ballpark" number and yes, you can go higher if you run more cam and better fuel.
But remember, it is easier to adjust more performance into a lower CR engine, just give it more spark advance along with better fuel quality.
You are somewhat "stuck" if you end-up with too much dynamic compression for the available fuel.
I am right on the "doorstep" of doing this with the Buster engine, I am over 9 to 1 with that combo.

I run 10.3:1 on my long rod motor. I must run Premium fuel. A bit more cam might solve that. Until more cam is installed, I won't know.

Ya made me listen Zilla! Is that supposed to be music or something? Pretty lame tune. Probably just riding on previous fame or something! Wow! Great way to stay on topic!
