Post subject:  75 Dart noise in rear.

I have a stock 75 dart I have noticed a noise, kind of a squeak in the rearend over the past few weeks. Today I was out on the highway and suddenly at road speed the car started to lose power and then pick back up, when I let off the gas there was a bad rumble in the rearend.

Any advise as to what to check first would be greatly appreciated.

I have checked the oil in the rearend and it is fine, but I don't know what to do next.

Thanks
James

Sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me.

Jack the car up and remove the drive shaft. Now you can inspect the u-joints and rotate the readend around by hand to be sure the problem is back there.
If the rearend seems tight or "crunchey", pull off the inspection cover and/or the axle shafts for a look, or just start looking for a replacement unit.
