Post subject: | A few questions about engine sputter / exhaust. |
Hello, i just bought an 84 dodge 100 225 six, with 74k miles, this is my second slant six, the first being a 75 dart custom. the truck is a 4 speed, (3 with 4th gear overdrive) Shifts great, but in second gear im getting a bit of engine sputter, not huge, but deffinatly noticeable. I had this problem in my 92 ramcharger, and changed the plugs, wires, cap and roter, and fixed the problem. I tuned up the ol 6 the same way, but still having that sputter in 2nd, any suggestions? Second question is about oil, tranny fluids, and rear end fluids, whats the best viscocity to use for them? 3rd question, the truck is all stock, and has a 2" exhaust with a cherry bomb (glass pack), its too quiet for me, in my opinion, if you got a mopar truck, people need to hear your before they see you so they can kindly switch lanes So what can i do without running a straight pipe to give a nice throaty rumble? I know these engines are naturally loud in front but quiet in the rear, but ive got a few bucks to throw in to the old girl, so any suggestions on exhaust that isnt too extravigant, or need too many engine mods? Thanks alot |

10w30 works great for most folks. I found the 15W40 too slow to pump up for my taste. 90 wt gear oil for the manual tranny and rear. Can't speak to your desire for more noise. I prefer that people can't hear anything but my tires coming at them. I don't want to hear somebody else's junk, so I don't expect them to want to hear mine. To each their own I guess. 2¢ CJ |

Headers+flowmaster 40=obnoxious Or just add a turnout in front of your rear wheel? -Ron |

Duals with no mufflers under the bumper. 10-30 is good. |

thanks for the suggestions, i had headers into 40's on my dart, and it was pretty nice, not in the financial position to be doing that right now, so tomorrow i think ill cut the pipe off 5 or 5 inches after the glass pack and turn it out with a tip, see how that sounds |

Right on! I know that my moperform 6-1 header makes the largest difference between my dart and my dads in terms of the exhaust sound, but that turnout will probably make the exhaust much more noticable to you and the people around you. |
