Post subject:  Distributor

I was looking at the MSD website and they do not offer a magnetic distributor for the 225 (or i couldnt find one), so i went to summitracing and found a mallory (the only one).
Is there a brand that makes a 225cid distributor compatible with an ignition box?
Im thinking on a system to retard spark on the distributor but couldnd find one.
Any advise?

If you look on MSD's directions they have instructions to use the Mopar EI distributor to trigger the box, if you have a 'brain' doing the ignition timing, you can use the 1981-1987 ESC distributor as these have no advance mechanisms and are considered to be "locked out" or static.

Mallory is the only aftermarket distributor of it's type.

So, this years (that you mentioned) are compatible with my '72 225cid?
And if they are, the can be managed by an msd 6al?
Thank you and im really not familiar with this.

For a race only application, running fixed timing can be useful. For a street driven car, it's not going to be the best choice.

I run an older Mallory Unilite, which works well for my purposes. It offers mechanical advance only. It runs my MSD-6A with the stock ballast resistor.
Are you going with Boost or the Hose? I would think the purpose built series MSD controllers would be a better choice than the 6 series for that.

You are right. Ill explain my intention so you guys would be able to help me more. Maybe i dont even know what im saying..

I want a street and occasionally strip car.
Im going with turbo, so my concern was about ignition retarding when under boost.
Im currently building a 302ford turbo and thats how im taking care of it.
I have the 6al boost sensitive msd box, so i hooked it up to the msd distributor and works like magic.

Now i thought i could do the same thing with my slant6, but when i looked for a dist for my 225 on msd couldnt find anything.

Thats is my concern. I wanted to be able to use a boost sensitive ignition box.
Any advise?

Gotcha. The last time I bought a MSD 6A, they didn't offer a boost computer onboard. I may be:
A. Dating myself
B. Full of poo

I bought my current 6A in '93. The 6AL had a built in Rev limiter. That was about it IIRC.

If you have a boost input, then your golden. Can't think of why it wouldn't work. For street use, I'd still want more than the fixed distributor. I'm sure there are ways to fix that with electronics.

The plain old 6A doesn't have a boost retard........

But there is one in the 6A family.

Any MSD box that accepts a magnetic trigger input will work with a Chrysler electronic distributor.

The box that i bought for my V8 is the MSD 6AL BTM (boost timing master) and works hand by hand with the 302 msd distributor.

The mentioned distributors from the 80's generation because the are electronic. My question is that if those distributors are compatible with my 1972 225cid? and if so, what should i be looking for?
and also, if they are electronic, they should be no problem on understanding with the msd box.. (btm)
