hey guys im looking to buy some hids for my car...my boyfriend used to take care of all of my car stuff but we just broke up...and ive never bought any car parts online before sooo i have like no idea what im doing...does anyone know the best kind to get? ive been looking at some hid kits but im not sure if its a good deal or not. Could someone recommend a good website to buy from? thanx!!

"HID kits" in halogen-bulb headlamps (any kit, any headlamp, any vehicle) do not work safely or effectively, which is why they are illegal. See here. There is one and only one properly-engineered HID headlamp with good performance that can, with some metal cutting and adaptation, be made to fit a car originally equipped with 7" round sealed beams. It costs about $450 apiece, and you'll need two of them. Also, it will make your car look like it needs a bra.

The blue-glass "extra white" or "xenon blue" headlight bulbs are another dangerous/illegal scam. Sylvania's "Silver Star" items are yet another scam.

What is it that you're trying to accomplish, exactly? If you're trying to give your car a certain appearance at night, then you need to have another think about it; headlamps are safety equipment, not cosmetic toys. If you're trying to see better at night, what you need to look for is headlights that work better than what you have now, rather than going shopping for HID lights and winding up with dangerous junk. If u retro fit and aim your hid's its ok, but make sure u do a good job and not a hack one. Its not really that simple to jusy buy an hid Kit. This is tru for any car.

Hi all,

I have gotten headlight help from Dan, and I recommend you listen to him. My Jeep headlights that I got his help on are awesome, and I feel safe in the worst of fog.

Yeah, I must admit the old Cibie' BOBIs I bought from Dan years ago are freakin' awesome especially with relays and +50 bulbs. It always made me laugh riding alongside new BMWs, Mercedes, etc and seeing how dim and unfocused their lamps appeared in comparison. Contact him for lighting needs. Unless the first post is spam and VolcomCutie is just a bot. Then I hope her wiring harness melts down and headlamps explode. :shock:

Hi SlantSixDan,

Please tell me more about the 450 $ a piece HID lights. Is the metal cutting on the back side of the bulb cage? Where can I find more information about them?

It's the ValeoSylvania XE7 (not the XE7R, but the XE7), which you can see and buy here. You need to cut the headlamp bucket and possibly the rad support or front of the fender. Beam performance is quite excellent. The lamps themselves are funny-lookin'.

Looking at the gallery, they might be OK if left chrome.

OTOH, a set of bloodshot bezel covers might be cool, too. Kind of like the styled contact lenses people wear.

HA! I was speaking with a sales associate at some department store a few years back and he was wearing some freaky contacts like that. After I noticed them I thought maybe I wasn't giving them the attention the deserved as he started looking away while we talked. I guess he wasn't used to someone looking him in the eye during conversations. :roll:

Is there an issue with the XE7R's performance? It looks like a good way to add HIDs with a more normal look.
