Post subject:  back up timing light or damper tape?

my 1970's "All American DC Timing Light" finally blinked out,, gona miss that tool, little tail fins on it, looks like a flash gordon ray gun,,,
anyway been reading on various forums on back up timing lights. Some say they don't work on distributor fired engines, others don't have problem with them. Actually I believe I would prefer a simple timing light and a degree tape on the damper, on searching through this form saw where SSD said V-8 degree tapes won't work on a slant, I have been looking but so far have not found a degree tape for a slant.
Any thoughts on back up timing lights or where I could get a degree tape for a slant?

thanks

There is no timing tape for a slant-6 balancer.

You don't necessarily need dial-back timing light either; see here.

Agreed, but since you need to get a timing light, anyway, why not a dial back? I love mine. Does not have to be a high dollar unit. Shop around. I don't recommend going as cheap as Harbour Frieght, though. Mine is a Sears, but it is many years old, don't know their current quality.
