Post subject: | Triple carbs? |
I have been thinking about running-building a triple carb intake for my slant and wondered if anyone has done this. I have 3 1945 carbs and an extra set of flanges laying around. would be installed on a 225 10.5-1 comp, erson 270 cam, p&p head. any ideas? |

Never seen a triple downdraught intake before (although I'm sure they've been done, Mr. Mueller comes to mind,) only sidedraught with DCOE carbs. I think ExnerGeek has run these on hid drag car, a few others. -James |

It'll look great, and it might go great, but you'll probably have to take that "21mpg and counting" line out of your signature after you install three carbs. ![]() ![]() ![]() - Mac |

I regularly visit an old car/hot rod forum, and the same or similar question comes up from time-to-time. Those guys typically tell folks to run the carbs with a progressive linkage system, not all three carbs opening and closing the same amount all the time. Run the engine off that center carb at part throttle and cruise, and set the linkage up to crack the "secondaries" at about half peddle stroke. This way, you should get the best of both worlds.....good fuel economy, and lots of fuel/air when you want it. Roger |

I guess that depends if you make the manifold a 3X2 or 1 large plenum.Roger Frank |

I will most likely be running a true 3x2 with 3 1945 carbs. I will be spinning the motor to 6300 rpm. Dont worry " 21 mpg and counting" will soon be replaced by 1/4 mile times. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Post subject: | runner length |
The rule of thumb for runner length is 90 divided by rpm in thousands. This is for to the plenum and even with 3x2 you will have to have a small plenum under the carb. With Webers or individual EFI bodies (which can be tuned through and have no plenum or box underneath )you can include them in the total tuned length but with a plenum you tune to the plenum. I have been using this formula for many years and have found no need for another So for 6000RPM you get 90/6=15 inches. That length by the way is to the middle of the intake valve so you must include the cylinder intake port length in your calculations Don |
