you will need to change your trannyhump also if it is an 87 pickup you will need the master cylinder forthe hydraulic clutch |

| Post subject: | You will need a lot... |
Here's your list... A-body slant six Z-bar 1967-1976 A-body clutch pedal 1967-1976 -you can pull your pedal assembly apart and install the pedal and you will need a clutch pedal spring too. A-body linkage and bushings, etc... Manual Tranny support for the motor (pull from truck) Truck tranny OK, need to read article section by Dave Clements on using the Truck tranny in a car... May need shift stick, and shift rods from A/F body You will need an 1967-1980 A-/F body "hump" for the shifter Flywheel and bellhousing from the truck, you may need to modify the truck throwout lever or get an A-body replacement due to length/style Bezel/Boot/Plate can be taken from Truck... You should also take the driveline yoke so it matches the tranny, more than likely on the truck the spline count is like the A-727 tranny not the A-904 tranny... Good Luck, -D.Idiot |

If you're using an a833od out of a truck in an a- body that was a factory 3 speed all you have to do is fab a shifter base mounting plate and tweak your shift rod length as explained in the article. All he means about the yoke is that if you take the truck trans, take the truck yoke too. You'll just have to undo the front u-joint so you can leave the truck driveshaft in the junkyard. Take a pair of C-clip pliers and maybe a small hammer and prybar in addition to your other tools. O and you may have to have your driveshaft shortened,... been a while since I read that 4speed article. Edit: D-idiot beat me to it while I was typing... slowly... |

You have to replace the mainshaft i the tranny, which involves full disassembly and pulling all the gears and bearings off the mainshaft, among other things...If you don't want to do too much, then shop for an A/F body OD tranny ... -D.Idiot |

Quote: why do i need a or f body shift linkages and woultn the ones on truck tranny work
Because the Abody tranny puts the shifter at the end of the short tailshaft mount... the B/E body have two mounting pads, and the late truck OD tranny uses a plate that mounts to the front mounting pad and the shift rods aren't the same as the A/F body rods...you read the list in the 4 speed article Dave Clement wrote when he shoveled the Truck/Van/B/E body tranny in to his A-body Barracuda?Basically if you aren't ready to do a lot of work, keep looking for the A/F body tranny, it bolts right in with the right bellhousing... |
