I need to replace wheel studs on the axle. I have the 8 3/4 pumpkin style differential with no rear access panel, can someone give me quick instructions on how remove the axles with this style of differential? Thanks for your help, -Brian |

Normally it is not necessay to remove the axle to replace the studs. Remove the brake drum, and drive the broken studs out of the flange, into a clear area behind the flange. You can pull the new stud into the flange with a nut and a stack offlat washers... lube the threads and washers, well. If you want to remove the axle, after you remove the drum, there are 5 nuts that hold the bearing retainter to the housing end. Remove them and pop the axle out. when reinstalling, make sure to readjust the end play. |

Thanks for your quick reply, I'm hoping to not have to remove the axles. I found some studs with smaller splines that should press in easily. But I may have to have the axles drilled out for slightly larger studs that will fit snugly on the brake discs. |

You don't want to use smaller splines, the studs will not be tight.Quote:

I'm confused. If you are thinking smaller splines, why are you needing to drill the axles? Do you have drum brakes or disc brakes? Just get the correct studs and replace them, this is not a major project, not drilling or machining required.
