Now that I have spark and the slant 6 is running , I want to time it. I have adjusted the valves set the dwell but I am unable to get it timed to the exact spec. I can come close but not exact. If I remove the distributor and rotate it clockwise a tooth I still can not get it exact. If I remove the distributor and rotate counter clockwise same problem. I can get it within 10-15 degrees either BTDC or ATDC but not to 2.5 -5 BTDC as required. The timing mark is not wandering. Thank you, Otto |

HA done that once or twice..did it change when un pluged..I find some times it dont.. |

I've never found a difference in the timing when plugged or unplugged.

Then your vacuum advance diaphragm is ruptured or stuck! Get a new one so you can get better mileage and engine performance. Your motor must be pretty sluggish and flat, not punchy......When my pod kicks in it feels like a sling shot!

The distributor is hooked to ported vacuum; at idle it *should* see zero vacuum and have no effect on timing. However, it is best practice to remove and plug the distributor vacuum line while setting the initial timing. |

Disconnected the Vacuum advance and plugged and also found the bolt beneath the distributor and loosened it up a bit. I was able to set the timing now . Thank you all for your help. Otto |
