I think my clutch is tired. After all, it's 25 years old! There is a sound like the throwout bearing is galling when I start out in the morning, or start out on a hill any time. Reversing up a hill is impossible; all I get is a bunch of chatter and no rearward motion. My question is this: what size clutch does it have, and would a stock replacement be stout enough for occasionally towing a fishing boat? I drive 99% of the time unloaded with just me in it, on back country (hilly) roads with quite a few stop signs. The other 1% is all interstate with a small boat. I'm looking into doing this as inexpensively as possible, but I don't want to have to do it again either. I plan on doing the z-bar bushings, flywheel, and rear main seal while I am in there. I've read all I could about it, but just wondering what you guys have to say. |

80's truck with the A-833OD will have the Borg and Beck 10" clutch...if you need something more robust, you'll be contacting spec clutch for a better option...the organic stock disc just isn't going to help...and that style of clutch plate has been known to frag under drag race conditions... your flywheel will take either the 9 1/4" or 10" clutch...but since you are towing you'll want to have something with grip and the bigger disc. Good Luck, -D.Idiot |
