Want to rebuild the Valiant motor with a moderately hot combo, big overbore, bigger valves, mid cam, loose converter, 10:1 compression, etc. Low-ish redline with the stock 3-speed 904 behind it. I can't decide what to do about the intake though. I want one of the vintage looking intakes, which pretty much leaves me with the Cain/Lynx/Redline 3xSU manifolds and the Offy 2x1 barrel. Any others? I like the aussiespeed 2bbl one, a Holley 500 should be pretty cheap on there and the long runners mean it probably works pretty well with the stock 3-speed. However I worry it looks too 'new', no patina. I'd lik something that looks vintage still. Hmmmmm.... |

Unless I am mistaken, Clifford and Offy intakes have been around at least since the 70s, if not earlier. |

I'd run an AFB on an Offy. That's plenty vintage (mid 60's) and it works. |

Yeah, Offy intake is one choice. Especially if I can find a used one with a little patina. Aren't AFB's overkill for most slants? |

A point about the Lynx, The Lynx SUx3 is very narrow in the runners (roughly 1 1/4sq" area cross section at mid-point, down from the slant's 1 1/2" average in the head) and tends to have a Mays type "squirt" effect on the valve closing rebound wave going back up the runners that reaches and disrupts the jets at rpm. Depending on the valves and the carbs this can be as low as 3000. My present (temporary, but working) solution is 7" of 1 3/4" stack above the carbs (mine're HIF6's), keeping the "pressure head" above the jets stronger than the problem. It's good for about 5500. If I can't hog out the runners enough to contain/defeat the problem I'll likely resort to cobbling up my own (longer, or at least larger) manifold, another possibility you might consider. Home brewed manifolds were around long before the aftermarket ones. |

Thanks for the info.. What about the Redline DCOE setup? That seems like it would be waaaaaaay big for a slant with an auto though. |

40 mm DCOE's should be perfect for a mild/medium Slant. Lou |

Patina can be created. Talk to the rat rod guys. What about a hyper-pak repo? Early 60's stuff. Love the vintage look! |

I also vote for the Offy intake, but there are other good ones out there. Maybe you can adapt an early sixties air cleaner to whatever carb you decide to use. |

That is what I was thinking. Some kind of vintage-looking air cleaner on a rebuilt AFB on a used offy intake. That's the cheap way to do it. Ultimate way would be 3 used 40 DCOEs on a used Cannon intake. |

Offy intake, dig up a Carter AFB 400 CFM carb (if you find one and don't want, kick it my way),top it with an old hillborn style air cleaner sticking through the hood. |
