i have had a spare distributor hanging around for years. i started taking it apart to see what's inside and plan my recurve. it has a 15R gov plate. i just can't seem to get the shaft to turn. and i don't see how to pull it out to lube /clean it up. the roll pin on the bottom gear doesn't want to budge. the plate the springs rest on is the same. hoe is this supposed to come apart? D~~~! |

Did you pull the little clip down the distributor shaft? It is a tiny "C" shaped clip that snaps into a groove on the shaft and holds the governor in place. It is located inside the shaft below the felt oil pad. You will need some small needlenose pliers to get it out and some very small flathead screwdrivers (like jeweller's size small) to put it back in. |

gato, Sounds like you have some good parts. With a little work you will have a great distributor! Look for Doc's instructions that include (4) jpg's that show how it comes apart and describes how to do it. If you can't find it in the search function, send me a PM and your email address. This should be a sticky on the front page as often as this question is asked. Especially since new stock springs are available from "bigslant6fan". |

I have taken the governor and pick-up out and soaked them in carb cleaner or even PB Blaster. Got it loosened it up and then disassembled it. Frank |

I remember struggling with the drive gear roll pin when I started working on my dizzy. I made a "V" in a piece of 2X4 to keep the gear in place then used the pointy end of a small file with some careful tapping to persuade the roll pin out. It worked like a hot dam. |
