Hello I have been having huge carburetor issues ever since i got the car, but i still remain determined to fix these issues as usual.\ I have yet to take a good look into the engine since today is my birthday and whatnot ((Happy b-day for me.)) the car gave me this issue as a birthday present Here is the details. The carburetor when on drive idle without no gas pedal pressure is fine, but when i add some pressure, like a small bit, it will bog down then stall on me. It seems the bog/diesel/stall range is from 1%-75% throttle pressure. At full throttle it will act fine as if it doesn't stall at all. At neutral idle, i give it some gas, like 60%, it gets up to the idle it is supposed to, but when maintained it will slowly start to drop the idle to a point where it is at 15-25% throttle pressure. My guess is that it is lean but i will need to take a good look at it. Any questions comments or snippets of wisdom is good here. It just started today. |

Happy Birthday! Sure, cut down a red plastic Folger's coffee container so it will fit under the carb and catch the fuel from under the bowl. Mine is about an 1" high except for the bottom screw, is a "v" shaped notch to accommodate. You will want to examine the fuel contents so don't let it leak all over the ground. Then pull the (4) screws holding the bowl on. Pull out the tray after it gets done draining and tell us what you see. Some possible problems. 1. First check to see how well the accelerator pump is working. With the engine off look down the throat and pull on the throttle a few times. Do you see a real healthy pump shot? If not, eliminate any slop in the linkage and you may have to replace the accelerator pump diaphragm. 2. Fuel line is disintegrating with the new fuel, need to change over to 30R9 hose. You may see black specs floating around in the bottom. 3. If so, be sure to replace your fuel filter. 4. If rust, then do the fuel line mod because the metal line around the engine is rusting out. 5. If water balls are floating around on the bottom, then add some gas dryer to your tank. I would take the economizer body out, but if you don't have a kit handy, spray carb cleaner into the main jet and down the low speed and high speed idle jets. Pull your mixture screw after documenting it's setting (1.5 turn out?) so the crud has somewhere to come out. 6. While your in there be sure the power valve is seated correctly and the (3) crews at the top are snug. 7. Pull up a copy of Dan's instructions from the sticky at the top of this page and ID all the parts from the pictures. |

Also, check for a vacuum leak. |

Carburetor operation and repair manuals (and some training movies) are posted here for free download. Also see the Holley 1920 links off that thread. |

Depending on your browser and computer, you may have to save the video and view it on your machine rather than viewing it on the page itself. I've fixed the links so the movies should show up as downloadable now. |

Rather odd thing happened yesterday, my car was still bogging as usual you know what i stated from above, then when i went back home from getting grovceries the car started to run normal, usually problems dont fix themselves, my throry in this situation was that it was clogged and a bit of pressure built up and snapped the clogged particle out of the way and it runs fine, either way im having my friend take a look at it today. |
