Post subject:  advice on double roller timing set

Hi guys,

Looking to buy a new timing set and damper for my 64 block that I am building up. I was trying to decide between the JP set and the Cloyes double rollers (can't find a Romac/Rollmaster which I think is the same as the JP?). I remember when I put my current hughes double roller in, that people thought it was easier to simply drill out and bush it than deal with the "adjustable" JP set.

Am I remembering that right? I'd appreciate some advice there.

Also any harmonic damper recommendations?

thanks

MJ

Personally, I can't be bothered with the multi keyed crank sprockets. I think it is easier to drill the cam sprocket and do the adj that way. I have a set, of the multi key, in one of my engines, and wound up drilling the cam sprocket on that, since it was such a pain removing the crank sprocket and reinstalling it (semi-tight fit, needed a puller).

As for the damper, I sent a e-mail to a NOS vender I have delt with. He used to have some NOS late style (6 spoke dampers). I purchesed a couple from him. Will let you know.

You have a PM, about the damper. If you buy it, you will need to make a new timing mark, unless you use the later timing cover.

I am thinking I actually have a later timing cover on my other motor, but I'm sure I dig one up. Are there any other issues since I am used an early forged crank, not a cast one. Besides the design of the wheel with more spokes and space, are there any other differences?

Thanks Charlie!

Try finding one of the Aussie Romac balancers. Very nice parts and can be had in aluminum or steel. I bought one for my 318 and it was very high quality. They used to be available for slants, but it's been a while since Ive looked.

Romac:

That price is probably in AUS $. At current exchange rates, I think that it would be about $30 less in US$, but then there's shipping.

I will see what I can scrounge up on romac, may be a touch more than I want to spend for my damper ;)

Aren't those 6-spoke Mopar dampers for cast crnaks only?

What do you think about using one of those Mopar 440 RB dampers and adding a 1 groove pulley on the front?
