I've swapped a 225 in place of a 170. I'm using Holley 1920 that was tuned pretty well on the 170. Should I expect it it to be rich on the 225? It seems rich (smoky, black plugs) and I'm not sure if I need to jet down or pursue something else. Also changed is the PCV is '85 vintage instead of '65. Thanks |

No. If it's in good shape, it'll run correctly on either engine. If it's in bad shape…you'll have problems (which might've been masked before, if the 170 had other problems).Quote: It seems rich (smoky, black plugs) and I'm not sure if I need to jet down or pursue something else.
This means the carb is running rich, but you will probably find it's because the carburetor is faulty, not because it's improperly jetted. Carburetor operation and repair manuals, training movies, and links to threads about repairing #1920 carburetors are posted here. If you decide you'd rather have a brand-new carburetor, I've got a few on the shelf; send me a PM. |
