I've had no luck with tires it seems - some may remember the blowout and busted belt I had previously.

Anyone seen this before? Only on the fronts, both fronts. Doesn't go all the way around either tire, but does happen in 2 or 3 places each tire. It's not something easy you can wipe off, you can easily feel it with a finger. I had these tires for several months, maybe 6-8, without any issues. I look at my tires fairly often, so this must have happened in past week or two give or take.

Have you had to make and "emergency" stops?? I had a spot that looked similar to that on a bike, motorcycle, tire when it locked up during a stop on a groved concrete freeway. This is about all I can offer.....

The wear pattern looks like the tire was dragged over something. (Wear marks in tire are larger on the leading edge of a tread block than on the trailing edge.) The grooved pavement in this locale would make coarser marks than what you show on the tire. Besides the emergency stop, what about brake drag or over-tightened front wheel bearings?

Thanks for the photo; 1. It helps explain things better than words ever could. 2. I've never seen anything like it before.

You ever lock up the brakes backing up? The fronts brakes can be relatively easy to lock when backing up. Got any teen drivers?

A-ha! This all makes sense now - I did have to stand on the brakes pretty hard a couple of days ago on the freeway up to the point of tire screeching. Was going full speed, traffic suddenly stopped due to random debris. I remember seeing smoke in the rear view and smelling it too but wasn't sure if that was from me or the other drivers behind me.

It appears only the fronts locked as the rear tires show no signs of this grooving. Don't rears typically lock up first? Maybe the wider rear tires made up for it.

Front - Stock KH discs, 195/14 BFGoodrich Premier Touring (Forgot aspect ratio)
Rear - Toyota (10"?) rotors w/mustang cobra calipers - 225/60/15 Fuzion HRI

Using a 2bolt 1 1/32" alu MC. The proportioning valve is a stock KH unit, however I removed the "proportioning" innards. Between the rear MC port and valve, I put in a summit adjustable valve. I wonder if I have it grossly misadjusted.

I think it's best for the fronts to lock first, that's where your stoping power is and with the rear still rolling, the back stays in the back.
And thats a good thing!!!
:D

P.S You should look up the proper adjustment procedure, and (NOT) take my word for it!!!!!! 8)
