I have a’ 67 Dart with small upper ball joints fitted to tubular UCA that can receive both large & small ball joints by using a reducing bushing. Will the 1967 spindles receive the tapered through bolt of the large upper ball joint? Or, do I need to use the later stile spindle with the large ball joint? |

If I remember correctly the bolt didn't go thru.the uca I got are from magnum force [by the way there great]I believe there is about a 1/16 inch size difference.I machined my spindles to fit balljoint.magnum force says you can ream spindles to fit to bigger balljoint but I could not find a reamer to fit angle of balljoint.the spindles i used were from a1967 cuda so i would think there the same as yours. |

Later yesterday afternoon after posting I called Cap Auto Products, the folks that produced the tubular upper control arms, about up grading to the later large ball joint. These tubular UCA can receive both sizes of joint by the use of a reducing bushing. He said he gets this call once a week, and that for cost of shipping he would lend customers a reamer to make the swap possible. Only about 0.040†has to be removed, and can be done while the spindle is in place on the car. I’m going to ream out my spindles, and upgrade to large upper ball joints, which are about a third the cost of the small stile joints and stronger. A ripped ball joint rubber, along with a lot of squeaking from the front end prompted this investigation. After removing the ten month old, three thousand mile small ball joint, I discovered that the ball had failed, and was in two pieces. No wonder the car was protesting, and getting a bit sloppy… |

Bummer on the broken ball joint. So that others may better choose their chassis parts would you be willing to share the manufacturer of the failed ball joint? |

Josh, I believe it purchased the joint from Napa, costing around 70 bucks. Unfortunately Napa’s little slips sometimes go through the wash in a pocket, or get misplaced during the heat of battle. Filing sales slips is not my strong suit. I never purchase the cheepo line of parts, so it was one of their better units. There are two numbers stamped on the joint: one adjacent to the grease fitting, 7022; and one on the end of the tapered shaft, 253. As you can see the joint looks to be in new condition except for the big chunk the fell out when I removed it from the UCA, and degreased it.
