| Post subject: | Master cylinder push rod retainer |
I am switching from drum/drum to disc/drum. When removing my MC pushrod from the drum MC, the rubber retainer that is on the end of the push rod got ruined. Where would I find one of these, and what is the proper name? It is a 67 Barracuda. |

I've heard that you can shoot some silicone into the hole prior to seating the rod and let it cure. The silicone will lock into the grooves on both the rod end and in the M/C bore. Any problem with that? |

I have done this, on the advice of Ehrenberg. The one time I've tried it, it did not hold. It's possible I didn't get things clean enough? The brake switch keeps the pedal from coming back too far, but I need to fix this. Lou |

I disagree with some of R. Ehrenberg's advice. |

Usually, I think Eberg is right on with tech stuff, but there are a couple of things I don't agree with, like the 9" "fragility." Lou |

Yeah and the F-body spindles causing the balljoints to break, LOL. I have successfully used a thin slice of vacuum hose. |

I find his accuracy rate is hurt by his refusal to acknowledge his errors. I've described the brake cylinder example before.

I did the silicone trick w/ the 12 second drag car......went thru the traps at 100 MPH, and the rod had poped out of the plunger.DONT DO IT!!! Andrew |

That sounds like excellent justification for spending the $3 on the right part! |

NHRA rules require a positive up-stop. A simple bracket prevents this. RTV does work OK, however, as long as you "pull" the pedal/pushrod in (bungee cord) and allow it to cure for 24 hours.Andrew Anyway, I scored a small supply of the retainers if anybody needs one. To the guys running F/J/M-body knuckles on A-bodies: Enjoy your 3X bumpsteer! Rick |
