| Post subject: | Combine manifolds bofore resurfacing? |
Greetings! I have a 1973 Dodge D100 pickup with a 225 slant six. I'm in the process of changing it to a "super-six), I pretty much have everything I need from a 1977 Dodge Aspen. I purchased the nice thick Remflex manifold to head gasket and it also came with a manifold to manifold gasket. Before I have the updated exhaust and intake manifold installed, I'm going to have a machine shop resurface the part of the manifolds that will attach to the head. I'm going to bolt together the two manifolds so when they resurface, both will be consistent. But here's my question... Should I install the Remflex manifold to manifold gasket and tighten the two manifolds to proper torque before I have them machined? Or is it ok to put them together without the gasket and just tighten enough to keep them together? Reason I ask is because more than likely I'll have to separate them again before installation and don't want to use the gasket until it's ready for installation. Any help you guys have will be great, thanks so much for your help! |

combine the manifolds be fore resufacing them with the crush gasket between them. it will save you some work and the only headache will be the weight and make sure to get them lined up so not to crack the manifold overtime |

Put the manifolds together, but only finger-tighten the three intake-to-exhaust bolts, before you have them surfaced. |

Thanks Izzy Michaels and SlantSixDan, Would you recommend applying the full torque before getting them resurfaced (slantsixdan recommends keeping them finger tight). I guess if I torque everything up, I can just keep it combined when installing it to my head. However, I'm not too familiar with the install process and not sure if I need to loosen the int/exh combined manifold to line it up to the head. Does anyone have any experience with that? If I torque the two manifolds together, get it resurfaced at the machine shop; should I be able to just bolt everything on to the head? Thanks again for your help! |

you should torque the manifolds to head then the three intake to exhast bolts....so I would do as Dan says ...then when you get it ready to install agin just fingertight on the three till manifold torqued to head keep on roddin' |
