I pulled the /6 engine on my 63 dart over the weekend.

It was the first time I've pulled an engine with an automatic transmission and I forgot to disconnect the flex plate from the torque converter.

Pretty embarassing. I think I'm getting senile.

I pulled, lifted and yanked on it quite a bit before I realized what was wrong and disconnected the bolts. Of course it came out fine after that.

I don't see any obvious damage or bends/tweaks but I'm trying to figure out how much damage I am likely to have done to the flexplate/torque converter/transmission? I probably stressed things quite a bit.

What do you think?

I worry about the transmission's front pump bushing and the front pump impeller "drive blocks" when a lot of side stress is put on the converter.

At a minimum, take a flashlight and look past the trans' front seal, you will see past the front seal to inspect the pump bushing and two square blocks behind the bushing.
If you see any damage to the front seal lip, pump bushing (gouged) or the drive blocks, (cracked or broken) it is time to pull the front pump assembly and have a trans shop rebuild it.

I'm not certain of the transmission anyway. I bought the car not running but the previous owner said the transmission was fine. I find it isn't always good to assume the previous owner is necessarily honest or knowledgeable. Maybe it is time to face the music, pull it and get it in for a rebuild. Since I'm this far into it.

You can pull the trans. and take it to a good shop to have it checked and "re-sealed". (Call around for quotes)

This means the shop will pull off the pan and check for problems. If all looks OK, they will install new seals, filter and pan gaskets.
Doing this is way less $$ then a rebuilt trans and it will spot any major "no go" problems... and the unit should not leak a drop afterwards!

If you or anyone on the forum can recommend a transmission shop and/or a machine shop in the Orange County (southern California) area I would appreciate the tip.

Moto Guzzi Mark (madmax/6) has a trans shop he likes in Long Beach.
Me... I would make some calls to local shops and get some quotes.
Ask what work is done for that price.
