| Post subject: | Carb question on 1945 holley |
I picked up a 1987 slant six and it has this carb on it.What year is this carb for ? http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu31 ... -10006.jpg There are three picks of the carb I am asking about.The numbers on the carb are visible in two of the photos.I put the links instead of the actual pics so you can blow them up to read the numbers.Thanks.The engine is out of a 1987 truck[of course]with 97k miles.What are the 1987s peculiarities? |

That's a 6145, is it not? (not even looking up numbers, just spent way too much time looking at Holley exploded diagrams prior to rebuilding my 87 1945) Couldn't guess the year, but it looks like an 'only works with lean burn' sort of thing, and as such should be sold for scrap. |

This carb does not have the electronic plugs for the o2 sensor. |

oh. I just noticed that it said "pictures" (plaurel). There is only link to one. I changed the last digit in the address bar a couple times and saw the other two. I only just now, after getting some sleep, noticed that the big hexogontal thing screwed into the top part is a vacuum device, not electronic, and #22 in this diagram: http://www.carburetorfactory.com/expvw13.html |

Sorry about the pictures being hard to access.I did not want to downsize them to fit boards size restrictions.I at first thought it was the electronic carb too.But when I removed it,I came to the same observation as yours.The video on http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/ ... /index.htm is of some help.But I still do not know the year/application of it.I have searched for the #s on the holley site,but holley likes 4bbls.From what I have found out the vacuum port on top controls the idle enricher.Vacuum applied enriches idle.The intake tract in the manifold was very clean,also the exhaust at the heat riser.So I will probably run it and see how it responds.Thanks to all for the responses. |

I am in the process of de-leanburning my d150. The stock carb was on the edge of too lean. The last 1/2 to 1/3 of the throttle especially on the highway was pinging. I got a new 1945 off /6Dan but when I pulled the old carb I was surprised to find no electronic enriching controls. I'm going to have to go a couple jets richer on the new carb, but I feel better knowing I have a chance at getting it right. So these have a vac. controled enrichening circuit? I hate complicated vacuum systems. |

Yours may be different.The material I have been able to access does call for the electronic control for the 1987.This carb seems to be a replacement ,not the original.I bought the engine and trans out of a barn.The truck it originally came out of was scrapped a year ago.That is why I posted here,to find out what year this carb is for.Our slants seem to end up with a metise of parts.Good luck with your jetting.The control of the vacuum is the thermostat switch.On until it warms up the coolant.Off when it reaches a preset temperature.The setup on this is similar to the California carb shown in the video,but lacking the manual trans dashpot. |

my 87 B150 has no wires apart from the idle soleniod (same as in your pictures).I know it's original because my dad bought it brand new, and I pulled the original carb for the first time 11 years ago. It seems like 87 non-CA trucks don't have electronic controls. Your top section (is that called the "venturi?"--'throttle body' being the bottom, 'bowl' being the middle--I'm talking about the thing screwed to the top of the bowl) is totally different from mine. |

My holley book shows 7319 to be for 1975 dodge 225 eng. auto trans federal emissions. Jet no 61-1. Holley gasket kit part no 4-265 Renew kit no 3-728. Non electronic model 1945 Book does not say truck or car |
