Is the original 4x10 speaker 10 ohm? 8 ohm? I'm assuming that I should get something that is similar? Will a modern 4 ohm speaker hurt anything? I want to get my AM radio tunes going, but the original speaker is toast. Is there a preferred source for such a speaker? |

Should be 8 ohms. (I think GM at the 10s) 8 should still be enough even if it was a 10. 4 is too low. You risk blowing out the radio at high volume settings. (and there might not be enough room for a modern 4x10 because of the much larger magnets in use now) You can use 2 x 4 ohms in series. (2 3.5" or 4" speakers) (they fit even with modern large magnets because the cone height is short with the small speakers) There is a person on this board that makes an adaptor for the 2 speakers. |

Mmmm…I'm not sure about that. Check the FSM or the inkstamp on the speaker itself if it's original. I seem to recall the original speaker in my '62 being a 3.2Ω item, but I could be wrong there. See also here. |
