I tried a test fit on my newer larger 2 barrel air filter on my 62 and the snout (snorkle??) hits on the battery. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need more spacers to raise the carb up higher?? I'm starting to think the Old Girl is trying to tell me she doesn't want a two barrel set up. Thanks. Joe |

I don't recall ever seeing a complete intact Super Six air cleaner fit in a stock '62-'66 A-body engine bay. There's just not enough lateral space unless you resort to major modifications such as relocating the battery to the trunk. If you space the air cleaner up, the hood will not close. Everything's really tight in the engine compartment of these cars! The usual solution is a custom air cleaner made by cutting the base (or just the carb seat) out of a 2bbl air cleaner and mating it to the rest of a 1bbl air cleaner. Work with the 11" drop-lid 1bbl air cleaner, not the 9" unit. As an alternative, you might get away with a '66-'69 V8 2bbl air cleaner (with round snorkel pointing over the valve cover). Hood might not close, though; you'd have to check. For now you may want to bend up the lip of metal that forces you to install the Super Six air cleaner in only one orientation on the carb, and install it with the snorkel pointing across the valve cover. If you want to make the thermostatic air cleaner function, you can get an extra-long flexible heat duct. |

Thanks Dan, that should do it. I wanted to keep it looking as stock as I can. There's no other chrome under the hood and I did want to keep it that way. Thanks again. Joe |
