Post subject:  DD & FED Engine Position Question

I need some in depth information so I can proceed with a fairly sophisticated project.

i'm working on the construction of a FED using a 225 , sleeved out to 245 cu in , unblown, injected on 40% Nitro.

I need to know if anyones has taken a center of gravity test to determine how much weight resides on the left and right axis of the center of the engine. I'm giving some consideration to standing it up 10 degrees straighter , and since I'm developing the pan, pump, and everything else , it wouldn't matter except it will make the adaptor to the Powerglide somewhat more difficult. I'm using a JW Bell and case with a 5500 Flash point converter and a 4.86 Ratio 9" Ford ( Aluminum case and spool) rear end. I need some real in depth technical info if you have it available.
Best I can determine, I can get the crank down to 65 lbs, the block to about 130 lbs and I'm working on removing a lot off one side of the head and building a billet block to bolt the injection ( custom built Hilborn) to as well as the transition for the 2" Zoomie headers. I'm trying to get the car to weigh about 1150-1200 lbs without driver. :?: :?:

Please email me directly if you care to at alkydigger@Yahoo.com
see my Fuel injection store at www.Alkydigger.com

Thanks

Please give me Doug's e mail or phone # and he may want to contact me . This may be one of the more "special" slant projects in a while .

Doug is DOC or Doctor Dodge on this forum so He is not hard to find. PM him.
Your and my build are really close except mine is BLOWN.

A factory SL6 has it's weight well distributed over crank centerline... when the factory cast iron manifolds are used.

In your case, the engine will be right side heavy so anything you can do to cut weight on that side, including standing the engine up straighter, will help the rail's "corner weights".

One thing to look at is to try to keep the engine's to chassis mounting points as high as practical. The top to bottom weight centerline is just above the top bolt holes of the engine mount bracket, bolt boss locations.
It is better to suspend and "torque rotate" the engine's weight along it's "center of gravity" then to have it "top-heavy".
