Yep, they have those all the time. Not a bad cam, but not optimum for any slant. This community has been getting good deals from Erson and they have done a couple of reverse dual pattern cams for slants. Also, it's easy to get good cams for a good price from regrinders like Oregon Cam grinding or Delta Cams and choose from dozens of lobes to tailor the cam closely to it's intended use. Or you can chose from two Comp Cams profiles and pay more.

You could not pay me to install a Comp cam. I just won't have one. Seen way too much sloppy crap out of that company for these engines, not to mention my philosophical disagreement with throwing a Chevy-grind cam into a Mopar engine.

The two fastest "stock" slants in the U.S use comp cams. I'm sure there are less expensive deals to be had but a person really needs to tailor there cam to the engine if you want it to work correctly.

I have no doubt Comp has provided some cams that work very well for some racers. I'm not a racer, never have been, and never will be, and I don't presume to tell racers how to race. My perspective is based mostly on the 252° cam Comp claims is a good stock/near-stock cam for slant-6s.

I've used a Comp in my junk. Worked fine for me.

...and so far the BV build with the CCX256 custom grind hasn't gone bad...and now with 9.66:1 compression it's in need of a better rear end...

The CC 252 is good for a daily driver, but shows it's limitations when pursuing mo-power... there have been a string of bad cores, non-aligned holes, etc... so if you do settle on a Comp, make sure to check everything to make sure it's all correct and check the mesh of the oil pump gear to the cam gear... So far I'm 2 Comps cams to 1 Erson and all have done as well as expected... My next one will have to be an Oregon Cam since I have some old cams laying around ...

You were getting excellent economy with your Comp in the Hyperpak Feather Duster too, weren't you DI? Something like 25 freeway with your 390 Holley on there?

Fopar runs exclusively Comp Cams, with tremendous results. I think he finally retired the 264S when he had an oiling failure. Wasn't that an oil pump drive gear failure Richard? My memory is leaky, like my pan.

My Comp 264s ate two oil pump gears. I am much happier with my Erson 280/270.

I do use Comp cams in my Chevvies though.....

Depending on the "tune" (timing/advance and carb tuning), I've dialed as high as 25-6...mostly it was happy with power in the 21-24 range...and down to 18 using a Holley 600 on it (but it just kept going and pulling until I ran out of road at 127 mph...) ...

The Erson 280/270 turned in a solid 24 mpg while returning from Medford, which I think is as good as that gets with the build and that carb...Edelbrock 500 might be able to squeek out a bit more if dialed in.

I'm kind of curious about the MP lobe profiles by Comp, since Doc had posted a dyno card from a guy running one of the 'mild' lobe sets and was turning in the 100%+ VE with a 198 Hyperpak....in the 'sweet spot',
the lobes looks a bit different than the "other" grinds in the catalog...Hopefully we don't run out of good cores before I get done fooling around with a few 'ideas'...
