more questions ............sigh*(man has this site changed) I'm starting to collect items for this 170 turbo we are building. I have most of the basic components but it's camshaft time. LOL* I have no idea where to begin even after reading every thing on this site twice. this is what I have. 1 170 block 2 198 crank 3 a well worked head that performed beyond my expectations Did really good normally aspiriated. 4 Buick T3 turbo 5 lots of other misc. turbo components you gotta have. What I need to know is a good starting point for a camshaft that will work in this mild set -up. I'm not racing here ......just want drivability and reliability, and to have some fun. sure would like to see about 360 hp and some equal torque. don't want to boost this over 9 to 10 lbs at the most more like 8..... ANYONE HAVE A BASELINE I COULD START EXPERIMENTING WITH? BTW: BEST REGARDS TO ALL maxracer |

I would go to this thread and take a look at what Oregon Cam Grinding offers. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=191616 You can mix and match whatever lobes are listed. I'm thinking the lobe from cam #819 as the intake lobe and the lobe from #818 on the exhaust ground on 114° lobe centers and advanced to about 106° intake centerline, maybe more. You'd end up with 248/240° advertised, 219/212° at .050" lift, .437/.441" lift and about .010/.012" lash. Since you're not going for a lot of boost I'd shoot for a true 8:1 static compression ratio. Wow, this cam is very much like the one Doug Dutra designed, but with wider lobe centers. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... les#227653 360hp is likely going to require more boost, but this combo should idle well and pull well off the boost. |

My cam is a Erson 220* @ 50 w/ .465 lift, 114* lobe center installed at 101*. Idles like stock cam. Pulled a 370 rwhp and 23 psi with a bowl port head. Is your turbo alittle big for the 170ci? Later Ryan |

A stock cam will make good power. I estimate mine was making 450 at the crank but had about 20psi more than you are expecting to use. Joshie's cam recemendations look reasonable. Keep the LSA 114* or higher. The buick turbo migh be a little lazy for this app but should work fine. |
