Entirely possible, but if it sat for 31 years then I suspect it will develop multiple oil leaks quickly and all the gaskets will fail soon after causing many vacuum leaks. He needs to tear the whole thing down and replace every gasket, hose, and seal on the motor, unfortunately, including fuel pump and carb.

reminds me of the 318 in the L600 I'm working on it had a 17 year nap

Slants are an amazing engine, as close to indestructible as possible. This story doesn't surprise me a bit.

Now, the block of wood behind the bumper mounted hitch, that's something else, that makes me feel real safe!
