Hello, all. We've pretty much determined that the aluminum 6 in my '61 Belvedere is terminal. We have located a 1980 low mileage slant six. Will I have any problems with it bolting up to the 3-speed manual tranny? I know another dude who put a newer six in a 1960 Dart Pioneer, but his replacement engine was a 74. Please advise quickly! Need to move on this! ![]() |

Another option will be to use a 1968+ flywheel instead as it's already set up for the engine in question. Check the late engine to make sure it has a pilot bushing hole...some are rough and you have to loc-tite a NAPA troubleshooter bushing or use a Dodge Dakota roller bearing... Another problem to ask is whether he uses the direct drive starter or our "standard" later starter... in that case, if it is the direct drive model, he'll have to have the flywheel machined to accept the fat crank...otherwise, it becomes less complicated. Good Luck, and let us know how it comes out! -D.Idiot |

DI, Do you have a part number for that bushing? I tried to locate one, about a year ago, and had no luck. I wound up turning the standard bushing diameter in a lathe. Could not use the Dakota bearing, as the crank was a early small pocket piece.
