Post subject:  1970 Slant Six questions

I just acquired a new (old) Slant Six and would like to start working on it over Thanksgiving. What size bolts do I need to mount it to the engine stand? Also, is there a way to tell if it's a 198 or 225 before I pull the head? It's out of a 1970 pickup. How much can the block be safely bored? If it's a 198, can I make it a 225 just by swapping crank rods and pistons?

Thanks,
Ken

Welcome to the forum. You can make a 198 a 225 just with crank and rods. The pistons are the same between ALL the slants. To id Look under number 1 plug on the smooth area of the block. On the home page of this forum is a series of articles on how to do all sorts of things to a slant. Read them and use the search function. Then if you get stuck ask questions in the correct section.
Which stand do you have? lenghts will vary.

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the reply. I just need to know thread size, then I'll buy bolts long enough for my stand with about 1/2 to 3/4 thread into the block. As for my Slant, I'm probably going to go the "long rod" route with KB268 pistons. My intake choices are a factory 2bbl or an Offy modified for dual webers. Can hardly wait to get started on it.

Cheers,
Ken
