Post subject:  Proper engine operating temperature range?

It's an '81 Dodge PU D150 with the Lean Burn and Auto.

It only has the idiot light for the Coolant Temperature Warning and I have never found the specs. for the proper engine operating temperature range (I've added a gauge). Anyone know?
______________

The parts store is trying to sell me an 195ºF thermostat.

I was expecting a slightly hotter 180/185ºF thermostat over the typical 176ºF T-stat because of the Lean Burn, but 195ºF?

(This has probably been hashed over a thousand times, but my search just didn't bring anything up, thanks in advance.)

195 sounds good. Earlier this year I actually tried to find a 195 rated thermostat for my brother's 83 Dodge van with a slant and nobody stocked them. Go with the 195 and you should be fine.

195° is the factory thermostat rating for 1973 and later slant-6s.

Ok, so a 195º T-stat it is! Thanks!

But that still leaves the temperature range; Normal Op and Red line?
