As you many know I am embarking on my 1st auto trans rebuild.

Are there any special procedures to adhere to when Starting up / priming the trans for fluid flow?

I will fill the torque conver with fluid. I have coated all moving parts /clutches / bands, Rotating input shafts etc. with Clean ATF on assembly.

On the manual trans the counter shaft just kinda t throws the oil around. but the Auto uses the pump.

I just dont want to screw it all up if I can avoid it. also what fluid is reccommended for all out racing apps?

Thanks!

Greg

I've used type "F" for 20 years with good results,It is recomended by many trans experts.Others have had good luck with dextron 4.Did you soak the clutch plates and bands overnight, this is important.

Follow instructions on filling trans, some in the convertor & 5 qts in the pan start run through R to N then run through all 1st, 2nd, D, & R back to N and add fluid to level required.
Just put in any type fluid you want to run, some like type F others like some of the other types. Type F has a more of the harsh engaugement than the other types.

Just out of curiosity, as I'm about to put my trans back in; why wouldn't you want to use atf+4?

Fopar is right about harder and softer shifts. The old direct connection seminars they taught us to use type F because it was less "slippery" than dextron 2 . Now there are dex 3,4,6 ect. that were designed to have the driver not feel the shifts. As one engineer said heaven forbid someone driving their luxo barge spills their morning coffee when the tranny shifts. Many racers and trans builders like to add one quart of straight 30 wt. oil to help lube a fresh rebuild. To each his own.

Thank you Sages of the auto Tranny.

Charles - Yes i did soak the plates and I will be soaking the bands - They just came in the Mail from Rick Allison. Fopar - Rome - Thanks for your bits of wisdom. Type F it is I want the tranny to snap my neck! - Also no one reccomended trick shift or any other specilaity stuff so I guess i'll get a case or 2 of Type F.

My understanding, from reading on a few assorted forums, is that Trick Shift is little more than type F in a different bottle. And a lot more $$$
