Doug... I have a couple old junk timing covers laying around that I can drill on if finding the right location is just a hit-or-miss proposition, but I was wondering: is the cam bolt, by any stroke of luck, located directly under the intersection of the stamped "X" relief on slant timing covers? I've scrounged some extra rocker adjustment bolts @ the boneyard and some appropriate nuts @ the hardware and am gonna use your "anti-cam-walk" bolt idea on my next engine. Thanks. ---Red |

The way I do that is by using a piece of 7/16-14 threaded rod with a point machined onto the end of it. I install that into the end of the cam and install the cover over it. Now it is a simple matter of pushing the cam forward and "center punching" the backside of the cover, the punch mark it leaves is the place to drill your hole. You must also select a grade 8 bolt and grind the face of the head smooth. DD |

I have never used a cam stop and never had any trouble with cam gear or oil pump....up to 7000 in my old car. Quote:
