Hi floks... I know that this is not SLANT6 related.... I have a friend in Crescent City, Ca that has a 34 Business Coupe... By a stroke of good luck he was able to score a Dodge pickup which was totaled... Engine is untouched which a V10.

He was wondering if it is possible to put a V10 in this 34 Coupe and if at all possible what transmission would be best???

Any help you can provide would be very helpful..

Thanks

Terry

Sorry to break this to you, but the truck V10 isn't much to shout about. It is not the same as the aluminum block Viper engine. In this day and age 300hp in that heavy a package is not a good deal. If I were going to use such an engine I'd stick with the factory automatic and computer. You need the computer to run the engine anyway. The 5-speed the factory used was huge and has a granny low. Nothing you'd want in a car.

yeah stick with the trans that's with the engine. and even though its the truck version, a v10 is a v10 is a v10. it's badass all the way around.

If the transmission is beefy enough for a 1 ton pickup it will be good for the 34 Coupe, and if it has the manual your buddy could go towards more of a ratrod car.
They may not have screamed with Hp like the Viper, but they still have 10 cylinders worth of torque putting down 450 or so foot pounds.

Somebody needs to double check me on this but.
If I remember correct, the V-10 is basically a small block that grew two more cylinders.
Good chance that if the trans isn't usable, a built 727 or something similar would work.
By all means check before you go buying stuff, but it might work.
As far as the power output from a truck V-10. Some years ago I saw a Dodge dually, crew cab, smoke a Corvette from a stop light. There's a ton of power in that iron V-10.

I had a '96 Dodge 3500 4x4 with a V10 and the NV-4500 5-speed as a company work truck. There is no way on God's Green Earth that a stock iron truck V10 would put a Corvette to shame. That was an 8k lb truck with only 300hp. There were supercharger kits for them, but still I wouldn't go Corvette hunting with one.

Yes you would. Even if it was to put it in the bed and bring it home.

Wish I'd been able to talk to the owner. Had enough power to smoke the duals, and shot away from the stop quite nicely.
Little like a 73 Chevy I drove back in the day. My boss at the time had the truck, a 454 Dually Crew Cab, for delivering starters to Auto Parts stores. The original engine didn't last a full year, and Chevy would not back the warranty. They weaseled out because the truck was a personal purchase, but used commercially.
Anyway, He had it towed across town to a serious engine builder. That was one amazing delivery truck when we got it back.

LOL! I can see it now, tied across the hood with a bullet hole just behind the front tire.

Not so, I'm afraid. The viper/truck v10 has a different bh bolt pattern than either small or big block mopar. That is correct about the internal design being based on the magnum/LA though. Seems an NV4500 with a different first gear ratio might work IF you could fit that giant beast under the floor...

The truck V10 I believe has the same bell as the Cummins.

Drop in a 2:76 suregrip if you don't like first gear.

My CTD hits overdrive @ 34MPH if you are being easy on it.
