I have a 65 dart 225 with auto cable shift (a-904?) can I swap in a 74 valiant 225 auto trans non cable or do I have to swap the steer column Too.Also compression on 65 is 150 on 5 cyl and 140 on one is this OK? the 74 has compression of 160 on all 6. Thanks

The 64 trans also has the trunion style of tailshaft and drive shaft.
You could put the 64 valve body into the later trans maybe . Your PSI is/are ok on both engines.

A904, yes.

No. The '74 transmission's large-nose torque converter will not mate with your '65 engine's small crankshaft flange counterbore, and you cannot use the '65 torque converter in the '74 transmission; you'd need to have a custom converter made. Also, the '65 (cable) shifter will not operate the '74 (rod-shifted) transmission. The '65 driveshaft will not bolt up to the '74 transmission. The '65 speedometer cable will not fit the '74 transmission. If you want to do this swap, you will need a custom torque converter, a '66 (only) A-body column-shift automatic steering column (you will have to swap on the '65 column-to-firewall mounting plate), a '66-'67 speedometer cable and a new speedo drive pinion, a driveshaft of the correct length (a unit from a '66-'76 Dart with the same transmission and type of rear axle will work -- not Dart Sport, though). You will also have to make some dimples in the floor pan.

Yes.

Back when I had my 64 barracuda 225/904 push button, I seem to remember when I went 360/727 and installed a b&m hammer shifter that I later found out that Layson Restortion in Alburn Wa has setup so that the push button will operate a column shift transmission. If you find a complete motor and tranny from a later car and still want to keep the push button you might check em out.

This is yet another item Layson does not make — he farms it out and marks it (way) up. Layson's reputation warrants extremely careful thought before sending them any money by any method for any part or service.
