If memory serves me Ron Hamby (sp?) had an external pump on his 66 dart at the Mason Dixon drags last spring. I beleive he is a member, but I dunno his username. C |

I have a home mode adaptor that uses hoses(AN Stuff) to a remote electric pump. Frank |

Frank what kind of electric pump are you using? Pics? I too have wondered about a poor mans external pump arrangement. I thought of a Power steering pump but had no idea of how much pressure or volume they could put out. Are there any other factory pumps out there that would lend themselves to being mounted so they could be belt driven? I I thought Terry used a stock Mopar pump and drove it off a belt. I also though he had some leakage issues. I may be wrong too. Rick |

Isn't there a pic of his engine bay in the SSRN #53? I'll go look. Nope sorry, Norm Foster's racecar. It looks like what I thought was a single stage dry sump pump is actually his fuel pump. Running a motor plate certainly opens up your options on accessory location! |

i used a stock /6 pump with a tapped block-off plate, and used a external line to the sump and 2 3/8 lines back to the block, the pulleys were serpintine power steering, they were bushinged to fit the pump and drill to fit the crank, the pump shaft was drilled and tap to hold the pulley along with a keyway. the hardest thing was catching the oil that weeped past the shaft which lube it. i cut an inch of the oil pump snout and used a copper plumbing adaptor with a barbed nipple siolder in it and expoxyed to the pump, a line to the base returned the oil, a small oil seal was pressed into the copper adaptor with some expoxy and sealed against the shaft. it worked put took a lot to get the bugs out . the altenator had to be moved because the put has to spin CC wise. |

************************************************************Even though Terry's was a slant oil pump, just used externally, I'd like to explore this idea a bit. I do know that many off-road guys with hydraulic winches have mounted an additional power steering pump to supply the winch, or T'd off of thier existing P/S lines. I don't really know if the P/S pumps are capable of giving sustained flow & pressure numbers that might be required for use in the manner suggested. Anybody have access to such info? What might be a good salvage yard donor for a pump? Maybe something out of a GM hydro-boost application? Maybe it would have to be something from a piece of heavy equipment.....say the hyd. pump from an endloader? Roger |

Several of the racers have external single-stage (wet sump) external pumps. IIRC, Norm Foster, Dale Rose, and the Drakes used these. Charlie owns one but hasn't used it? I bought a used external setup from someone, but have seen no use in putting it on. Lou |
